HBCUs are exceptional institutions, but vastly underfunded. In spite of their chronic underfunding, HBCUs are a significant driver of degree attainment and economic mobility, especially for students from low-income families. HBCUs have a proven record of removing barriers to degree completion and postgraduate success, with their graduates making up 50% of Black doctors and Black attorneys. 40% of Black engineers and Black members of Congress and 80% of Black judges.
The donation will be divided between the Top 58 ranked HBCU schools, as ranked by US News & World Report. 10% of the total donation will go to the #1 ranked HBCU, Spelman College. Founded in 1881 as the Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary, Spelman College is the oldest historically Black college for women in America. We will specifically highlight their #1 ranking throughout Women’s History Month. 40% of the donation will be split between the rest of the top 15 schools with the balance going to the remaining 42 in the Top 58.
